Here is Dara’s bio:

Dara O’Rourke studies the environmental, social, and health impacts of global supply chains. As both a professor and a practitioner, Dr. O’Rourke teaches environmental and labor policy at the University of California, Berkeley and is co-founder and Chief Sustainability Officer of GoodGuide, the most comprehensive source of consumer information on the health, environmental and social performance of products and companies. Under Dara’s leadership, GoodGuide has been named: one of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company; CNET Editors’ Choice “Best Newcomer”; the New York Times “App of the Week”; and the TechCrunch startup “Most Likely to Make the World a Better Place.”

Dr. O’Rourke has consulted to the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and a wide range of non-governmental organizations. His report on Nike’s labor practices in Vietnam in the 1990’s led to a front page New York Times exposé and helped ignite new initiatives in corporate accountability and transparency. For his work on Nike, Dara was voted one of the “Male Sports Figures of 1997” by the Village Voice. Dara’s work has also been covered widely in media outlets such as Newsweek, Time, The Economist, O – the Oprah Magazine, Glamour, USA Today, Wired, Fast Company, ESPN, ABC, CBS, and NPR.

Dr. O’Rourke has published two books, and dozens of academic articles, including the award-winning Community-Driven Regulation (MIT Press, 2004). His forthcoming book (due out in fall 2012) is titled Shopping for Good. His articles have appeared in: World DevelopmentJournal of Industrial EcologyJournal of Environmental Planning and Management, International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health, and Stanford Social Innovation Review. Dr. O’Rourke was previously a professor at MIT. He holds an MS and Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BS from MIT.
